Body language creates a ton of problems in the workplace.
Your employees constantly pick up on body language signals from their coworkers and interpret them. The problem is that more times than not, they are wrong.
Most of us think we are experts at reading body language. Sorry, that’s far from the case. Misinterpretation creates all sorts of trouble. Missed deadlines, reduced productivity, and strained relationships are a few that come to mind.
Doing body language workshops is a blast. The audience always fully engages in this topic. It provides benefits for work and home, plus it’s fun to discuss.
When I lead sessions on nonverbal communication, there are always two main objectives I have for the participants:
- They pay attention to their own body language and to ensure it’s consistent with the messages they intend to send.
- They notice the body language of others, but don’t make assumptions about what it means.
I typically format the workshop to last for an hour or two. Teaching your employees to be better communicators with body language makes a great addition to any staff retreat or a nice break from the usual staff meeting.
